Four Advantages Of Using Vinyl Fencing For Your Yard Instead Of Wood

Blog

If you are thinking about replacing the wood fence in your yard or installing a new one, you should give consideration to using vinyl for your fence material. Vinyl fences have several advantages over traditional wood fencing. The following are four of the most significant advantages.

Vinyl fencing is more durable than wood fencing

Of course, the strength of a wood fence will depend upon the type of wood used, but the hardwoods that you find inside the interior of a home, are generally too expensive to be used for a simple yard fence. However, vinyl is stronger and more durable than any of the typical woods used to make residential fences.

Installation is easier with vinyl fencing

There are different styles of wood fencing available, but for the most part, they must be constructed: holes for center posts must be dug, a frame must be built and wooden slats need to be nailed to the frames. In short, a wood fence must be built. A vinyl fence comes as a kit and is assembled. It does take time to install a vinyl fence, but there is less craftsmanship involved in erecting one than with wood material; therefore, it is easier to set up.

Cleaning is easier with vinyl fencing

Vinyl fencing only needs an occasional spray with the garden hose. If there is any dirt or other material that needs to be washed off, a general purpose soap will do the job. This is much different than a wooden fence. Often, a homeowner will not bother to clean a fence unless there is a special need for it. If there is a spot or stain that needs to be removed, it can be as easy as using soap, but if the stain is stubborn, some of the paint may come off during the cleaning process. In this case, some paint may be needed.

Maintenance is easier with vinyl fencing

Wood fences need to be mended on occasion. This means removing broken slats of wood and replacing them with new slats. Wood needs to be painted or stained to protect it from the elements. How often this is done will depend upon the weather conditions in your area of the country. Vinyl is impervious to the weather, and will not break or crack. And because the color is produced from a dye, it is found throughout the material, the color will not scratch off and never requires painting.

If you decide on using vinyl for your next fence instead of wood, it is available at your local home improvement store. But keep in mind, you can always opt to have your fence installed by a professional contractor. Many of them routinely install vinyl fences.

Fence Contractors, Privacy, and You

I've found that one of the perks of being a homeowner is the privacy that your own home provides. However, sometimes there can be a lack of privacy if you are in your yard and it is unfenced. When we bought our home, there was not a fence. One night, after the neighbors dog wandered through our barbecue one time too many, I decided that it was time to look up a fence contractor. We soon found a great price on a fence with a fantastic fence contractor. Now we can keep our privacy while still feeling open towards the neighbors.
